Star Trek (Deep Space Nine) U.S.S. Rio Grande
Even though a "Christmas tree ornament" this is a precision model
I was very pleased when I received this "Christmas tree ornament" in the mail. I like the other Star Trek merchandise produced by Hallmark but they are rather small scale representations as is necessary with the huge spacecraft depicted-- often 1000-2000 feet long and more. This little gem scales out at around 1:200 and as such has a lot of detail not available with the replicas of the interstellar voyagers. This little craft in itself is quite interesting. It is a fully interstellar-voyage capable expedition craft not a mere shuttle from starship to planets or moons that they orbit. As such the Danube Class was over 75 feet long and could accommodate a crew of four to eight depending on modular configuration for sustained missions between Deep Space Nine and nearby galaxies for missions of up to two months or so at speeds comparable to that of the "mother ships". They also had a weapons suite that made them capable of some limited convoy and interdiction missions. The level of detail is quite high and I am glad to say that they are truly scale models not mere adornments.More detail ...
The Menagerie 2009 Hallmark Ornament
Another fine Hallmark Ornament
I just started collecting the figure ornaments a couple of years ago. Where you can argue that there is nothing like a burned scarred man in a wheel chair for your tree knowing the context of this scene helps make it a fine ornament to add to the collection. The audio and lighting are well done. Perfect for a Trekker.More detail ...

Klingon Battle Cruiser 2009 Hallmark Ornament
Ship looks nice. It's unfortunately mute though.
In the latest in the annual overcharging of Star Trek fans for Christmas ornaments Hallmark brings us this Klingon battlecruiser. It's meant to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Star Trek movie from 1979 (which I saw in the theatres - I'm getting old). Anyway the detail of the ship mirrors the Klingon ships from that movie.
It actually looks great. The detail is nice and it's not just monochrome either - so the colors are better than your average one.
It comes with three micro sized flat batteries. Unlike other previous Hallmark ornaments it doesn't plug into the light system. This is good and bad. Good that you don't have to wrestle with taking lights out of the system. Bad in that you better remember to take the batteries out before packing it away. I've had things like that ruined by exploding batteries during the year. Plus they're non common batteries if you need to replace them you're going to pay a decent price for replacements.
It's also somewhat disappointing that for what you pay for it the ornament is mute. Several others in the past talked or at least had ship sounds (phasers etc). This doesn't do anything like that. All it does is light up which helps with the visual look of the thing but I would preferred it talk.
Despite all that it does look very nice so in that aspect it is a nice ornament. The negative bits kept the star rating at 3 otherwise it would have been much higher.More detail ...

Multi-Color Grapes Decor - Table and Home Decoration for Wine Lovers
perfect wine bottle decor
I wanted glass grapes to decorate a wine bottle with lights inside. These are just perfect. I previously could only find plastic grapes and I knew they would not reflect the light like the glass ones do. They look just beautiful; everyone has commented how great they look.More detail ...
